The boss’ boss, (aka Lumberg) decided to interview a candidate who I didn’t believe was even close to qualified for the posted job based on her resume. I expressed my concerns but nevertheless I was asked to take her out for a lunch interview after others in my department got to meet with her. We went to a decent place for lunch where you can order anything from a sandwich to a steak (they have a huge menu). So I tell her to get whatever she likes and that the bill will be picked up by the company. She orders a salad and I get the surf and turf - steak and lobster baby, here I come. When I returned from lunch and the candidate left, I had a wrap-up meeting with others in my department to determine if the candidate was a good fit. When Lumberg asked for my opinion, in disgust I said, “I don’t know, you tell me when you get my expense report. She had the guts to order steak and lobster on your dime!” Alrighty Sugar, under the bus you go! Needless to say, she didn’t get the job. Oh, by the way, the fresh Maine lobster tail was delicious and the steak was a perfect medium rare!
